Over the year we explore lots of exciting topics such as; Enchanted Woodland, Our Local Area, The World and Beyond, Paws, Claws and Whiskers and Festivals and Celebrations.
Please take a look at our half termly newsletter for current topics, key learning and important dates.
Here is Year 1’s daily timetable. We start every day with a challenge before moving into Phonics groups. Phonics groups are organised by the sounds the children know, which is assessed frequently. We also have additional Phonics sessions in the afternoon, along with intervention groups. We finish each day with a whole class story chosen from our lovely reading corners!
Here is our year group curriculum map. You will find all the exciting topics, learning and experiences we will be focusing on this year. We have key questions for each subject to support our learning journey. Our Academy Twitter and Instagram is frequently updated with what we have been up to! We also have our Reading spine- an overview of all the wonderful books our children have the opportunity to read over the year.
Experiences and trips
Throughout the year we enhance our learning by going on trips such as; theatre to see The Gruffalo, Sherwood forest, Trip to the zoo and much more!
We also end each topic with a celebration. In Summer 2 look out for your invitation to our Gruffalo performance!
Projects and homework is uploaded to the online platform of Seesaw. Please see your child’s class teacher for the log in details. Before the start of a new topic, children will be given a subject expert knowledge mat. This encourages the children to start thinking about their topic before it begins, explore books linked to the topic and practice reading/understanding new vocabulary. This hooks the children in, gets them excited for their new topic and builds their curiosity.
Each half term a newsletter will be sent home to inform you of all the wonderful learning that will take place along with key dates and messages. Here is the current newsletter for Summer 2.
